Private Studio
Hard Workers Welcome
Have you ever felt pressured working out in a busy commercial gym? With Personal Training, you’ll have the luxury of a range of equipment, plenty of space, and a fitness professional at your service to answer all of your questions while putting you through your paces. This eliminates any hassle of machines being used by other participants which can still be an issue with a PT or not in a commercial gym. A productive lockdown provided a great opportunity to build this gym space, check out the building process below!
The Start
Throughout the first week or two of lockdown, productivity was at an all-time low for me. I had finished my degree and was unable to work following the new measures put in place by the government. Fortunately, the weather was great so I was able to make the best of a bad situation and enjoy that, which brought me and my family's attention to an old barn we haven’t used in years that had been slowly decaying in the bushes. With an abundance of spare time and some inspiration from social media, I decided to make it my mission to create a high-performance gym space I could use for my Personal Training clients. I was lucky enough to have willing volunteers in my household to help with the project which definitely helped speed up the process.
The Build
Following the great idea and having a mental image of gym space in mind, it was time to make it a reality. We were able to clear all the brambles from the front of the building allowing us to find the door for the first time in 10+ years. The barn was full of rubble and had a large slope at the back. We ensured the building was structurally sound by replacing supporting beams and walls with, which included building a completely new wall for the back of the barn. Then came the problem of the sloping/cracked floor. Using a large amount of timber, we created a supported wooden platform which later became the studio’s weightlifting zone. A plyometric box was then built by the entrance to allow us to fit in a power supply. The studio was then painted inside and out transforming it into a fresh-looking gym space. Heavy mat flooring was cut to size and filled the studio before covering with a softer matting ideal for protecting equipment while exercising. Things were taking shape nicely.
The Finish
Gym equipment was becoming more and more sparse due to commercial gyms being shut all over the country. Fortunately, I had some equipment prior to this but was able to eventually get my hands on a squat rack, Olympic bar, and bumper plates to help finish off the studio. Following this, I was able to utilise this gym space for my own training throughout the later stages of the lockdown. The studio itself was built and ready to go, finishing touches were applied inside and outside of the building itself creating a wood chip path and outside area which unknown to myself had created a fantastic space for outdoor PT for Lockdown 2.0’s lighter restrictions. Since this project, it has allowed me to go fully self-employed and provide clients with a high-quality service in a spacious studio which has received some great feedback. Come and see it for yourself today!
